Hi guys, in this video, I want to give you an overview of healthy keto (ketogenic diet) and intermittent fasting from A to Z. We’re going to take a look at all of the things that happen, and all of the barriers that you might run in to on this diet plan.

A typical person has breakfast, lunch, and dinner—don’t forget about the snacks.

The average person also deals with:

• Belly fat
• Fatigue
• Memory problems
• Lack of focus
• Cravings
• High blood pressure
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Diabetes

The common denominator of all these issues is high levels of insulin. You may have insulin resistance, which is causing high levels of insulin. We have to fix the insulin problem, and the way to help do it is through the ketogenic diet. Keto is going to lower your carb intake and help reduce insulin.

Intermittent fasting works because you’re going to eat less frequently. Every time you eat, you trigger insulin.

In between day 1 and day 3, you may go through the transition period, also known as keto-adaptation.

You may experience symptoms such as:
• Low blood sugar
• Lightheadedness
• Fatigue
• Constipation
• Hunger
• Cravings
• Headaches

You have to realize it’s temporary, and if you give up right here, you’re going to lose the benefits of all the great things down the road.

*Other effects from the keto-adaptation phase can be easily remedied by adding more minerals (potassium, sea salt) and B-vitamins (nutritional yeast).

*If you cheat on this program, the next day you may experience more hunger and cravings—just get back on the wagon.

*When you start going to 2 meals and then 1 meal, some people really stuff themselves, and overload the digestive system, and they end up with right shoulder pain and bloating.

*Add lemon juice and apple cider vinegar to your liquid to help prevent the buildup of uric acid (gout, kidney stones) for those who are susceptible.

  • It’s not true that your thyroid needs carbs. In fact, your body will be more efficient on this plan, and the need for thyroid hormones will be less—this is normal.

*Your cholesterol may go up temporarily because your fat cells release it—this is what we want. Just stick with it, and things will come down eventually.

*Lastly, when you eventually get into autophagy (cellular recycling), your cognitive function, memory, skin, weight, and heart will all greatly benefit.

  3. I’ve followed your plan and lost over 100 pounds since 2017 when I first started keto, as a professional chef it was certainly a challenge!

  4. Hi, I started following your Intermittent Fasting plan in Jan 2022 now it’s October 2022, by April 2022 I was 42lb lighter and I have maintained that weight ever since, feel great, from wearing 40″ trousers I’m down to 34″, when I walk the dog part of it is jogged now! Not bad for 66. So I was 16 stone and now 13 stone at 5′ 10″. Had to recycle most of my old clothes, small price to pay. Oh and I’m no longer pre-diabetic!

  5. I don’t feel bad for being on my phone so long. This is a real doctor, real info. I see myself doing this cuz it makes sense. God Bless you, everyone and everything you do 🙏🏼

  6. Eight months in, 93 lbs. down. Feeling so good compared to last summer it’s almost unbelievable! Thanks, Dr. Berg!

    • @Matt Lane Fitness Aww, if you really watch a couple of Dr berg’s beginner videos. You’ll see him explain the surprising science behind this. He really says your overall calories may be about the same or may up being a little less simply because with Intermittent Fasting, you’re just not eating as many times. However, you *are* replacing the carb calories WiTH fat calories. You’re not just subtracting carb calories: you’re adding fat calories. If you watch a couple of his beginner vids, you’ll find it absolutely fascinating. So, he says that carbs in the blood are easier to grab first for the body than others. And the carbs do something that keeps it where it’s at-immediate energy. But in a carbless state, the body does this super interesting thing, converting fat into energy. This “new” energy form which the body is utilizing is called Ketones. A very real thing. Very interesting. The brain and other organs actually preFEr this form of energy and it is rather healing to them. Then when one adds I.F., Intermittent Fasting to it, then after a number of hours of fasting the body enters a state of autophagy, which is an action of sweeping up and cleaning debris from cells. Fascinating, still. And healing! Well, just thought I’d share. If you look into YouTube search with the words “Dr. Berg beginner’s playlist keto Intermittent Fasting ” you should find a playlist of about five videos that will really explain better.

    • @tamaruni tamaruni appreciate you and if it works for people then that’s awesome. I know him well and he/it ain’t for me.

    • @Matt Lane Fitness  thanks for keeping th debate professional :). That’s how everyone on internet should debate

    • @Harvesting Season damn right. When convos stops ignorance starts. Keto, carnivore, vegan, flexible dieting….or whatever it is if it works for you then that’s all that matters. ❤️💪🏽

  7. It is approximately 13 months since i have seen this video and as of this morning I weigh 100 pounds less. This video is a life changer for those who want to help themselves. Thank you.

  8. So informative and much appreciated. Will be starting Keto soon after much hesitation, but the doctor cleared up my doubts and replaced them with good useful information. Thank you Dr. Berg. You are changing minds and saving lives with your videos.

  9. Excellent I have been doing Keto and intermittent fasting 14-16 hours a day 7-days a week and have lost 80lbs in the last 12 months, excellent.

    • I agreed and I can remember what I have learned from Dr Berg and my local hospital are really shocked about my knowledge and they said they would like my knowledge that I have learned from him and a lot of people are asking me what to do and I highly recommend him for weight loss doctor and getting your health back to full

  10. I watched this video after just having gone from 270+ to 200+ lbs in around 100 days through a basic low carb high protein gallon of water type of diet plan and having hit a plateau. I followed your tips & now I’m 142 lbs (and still counting down) Thank you so much ♡ your videos are perfect ♡

    • @ Eda Nur Great job! Wow that is almost the same here I lost 98 lbs from 307lbs to 209lbs in about 7 months from not eating like I was fat and wanted to stay that way…plus I got off my butt more. That was more than an 80lb bag of cement I was carrying every where with me….even to bed lol. Then Covid hit and I kept creeping back up to 250lbs again…from staying in all the time. I just found this channel today and am going to get rid of that half bag of cement and hopefully end well below 200lbs. This is way to much weight on my double knee replacements and my RA. This might be what I have been looking for for years! It looks like life might actually exit outside my door again!

  11. I have only been on the Keto diet for 5 or 6 days and am amazed that I am not hungry nor do I crave starches, sweets or processed foods! The 16-18 hour intermittent fasting is also very easy to maintain. I am very excited to be on this diet because I have stage 4 breast cancer w/Mets to my hip bone. I have hormone positive cancer and after almost 8 yrs of treatment, I have run out of treatment options so my oncologist wants to put on full infusion chemo, which sucks the life out of me! In addition, I am almost 70 yrs old and am noticing brain fog, (my mother and aunt had diabetes and began developing dementia in their late 70s). I have not heard any mention of exercising, but I continue to work out at the gym

  12. Thank you so much for these videos. I have been trying to do KETO and now I know why I’ve failed. I’m getting back on and will keep this video as a reminder of how to stay on track. I really appreciate all of the work you’re doing to help us understand what’s going on inside of our bodies and how to remedy the issues we may encounter along the way to better health.

  13. I decided to skip the keto and get straight to the serious intermittent fasting and man it was hard at first, I started with 16hrs then ended up doing 20 hrs only on the 3rd day! I feel way more energized and happier and alos focused. This really works, all y’all gotta do is just keep pushing! Greatness takes Time and Effort!

  14. I am two years into this plan and I have to say that I feel and look amazing. I have an excellent mindset to who I was before – Dr. Berg wasn’t kidding when he said anxiety and depression are related to the standard diet. 7-10 cups of veggies a day, healthy fats, moderate higher fat protein, electrolytes, lemons, sea kelp and I have overcome every struggle my body has thrown at me. six months in I had issues with my adrenals (too much coffee so watch it!) and thyroid issues. Cut back on the coffee, incorporated healthy foods that support a healthy thyroid and added sea kelp and BAM hair growth like crazy, amazing sleep, increased drive, determination and focus and I am loving life. Thank you DR BERG!!!

    • @LanaBear I love sardines. Anchovies I love also. These to have become my staple along with avacado. Same thing eat like 10 Brazil’s a day because of thyroid. My doctor said i couldnt lose weight because of low thyroid. Weighed 256 on December 15th, now 208 last check at other doctor…

    • @Randall Glatt hello I was reading the comments and u mentioned thyroid I have gained 45 lbs I have 3 nodgels on my thyroid it is very hard for me to lose weight will the Leto diet help?

    • @Carol Martinez Yes U will lose weight. Mid Dec 2020 I weighed 256 with fatty liver disease with hypothyroidism. My doc told me I couldn’t lose weigh because underactive thyroid. Today I weigh 165 just touched 155 a couple of weeks ago but that’s 2 skinny. I did keto virtually zero carbs and no exercise this keto thing is life transforming. I lost my fatty liver no more sharp pains and liver enzymes are normal. My thyroid med has been cut in half from 112 to 50 mg. The liver and thyroid work together to convert T4 to T3. If your liver isnt 100% this conversion wont B very efficient. Cut the carbs 2 under 10 or so and in like 3 weeks you’ll start 2 C the magic.

    • @Carol Martinez Theirs people I work with who have had their thyroid removed and they take that thyroid medication and R good with their weight. Levothyroxine I take and they take. You want the natural desicate like Armour but my insurance doesnt cover plus my doctor has no clue…

  15. Started Keto and IF 38 days ago. After 10 days transitioned from 2 meals and 18 hour fast period to basically 1 meal with a 23 hour fasting period. Feel great. Began at 6ft 257 lbs and now 230 lbs.

    • IF/Keto for the last 24 days. Mostly 1 meal a day 20+ hr fast a day. Gone from 182 to 168. Starting working out on day 22, 10 minutes on the bike, 15m on Stairmaster, 6 sets of bicep curls, 6 sets of chest. Feeling great, looking great. I do miss some of my favorite foods like In N Out burgers and fries, Sushi, Authentic Hong Kong cuisine(roast duck, chow mein, chow fun, dim sum, etc). I’ll likely eat some of that food after I’m 8-10 weeks in.

  16. Hey Doc. Thank you so very much. I was really starting to get depressed with the way my body had become after the military. Injuries and excuses had made me obese (283lbs) when I started your program 5 weeks ago. Weighed myself this morning and I’m at 260! Thanks Doc. Thank you so very much. This is my life now and I’m going to keep pushing. I tell everyone about you and my wife has started as well. She’s lost 4lbs in just over a week. God bless you sir
