My mother died from sudden heart failure at 67 and really was painful since she was chain smoker and drinker and did not exercise nor eat healthy.

  2. Dr. Berg, as a 20 year nurse, I’ve avoided statins and metformin pushed on me, and taken 500mg niacin for years. However, I stopped the high dose because I was concerned about its affect on the eyes. There’s reports of keritination of the cornea. Could you elaborate more on that in a future vid?

    • @Fearless Since my first comment, I got the 100mg capsules, and have worked my way up to two of them per meal, and that has worked out with minimal side effects. Give it a try if the flushing is too much for you.

    • ​@A. R. Damn man what are yous doing?? Just blindly taking a supplement. Do some more research you had a niacin flush which is completely normal and some enjoy like myself. That’s why it’s always advised to start 100-200mg a day and work up slowly. Another point is that full flush niacin generally is the best the other forms don’t work aswell and have been associated with hepatoxicity. Get used to the flush or work up slowly

  3. As a kid I clearly remember my mother and grandmother taking Niacin, this was almost 55 years ago. The reason I remember is because they would blush almost hot pink, specifically my grandmother. My mother past away from a stroke, but after taking a severe blow to the head by falling. My grandmother died of natural causes at 112. She died at home and we were out drinking at restaurants till 106. My father is currently 103 and healthier than myself and lives independently. I should had started taken Niacin long ago, instead I am taking Crestor.

  4. I started taking Niacin right after this video came out because I had just seen my Dr.(August 2022) and she wanted to put me on Statins due to high LDL. This video was so timely. Fast forward to Feb 3, 2023 my LDL dropped 30 pts after I started taking Niacin 500mg. Thank you Dr. Berg!!!

  5. People who are prone to shingles should probably avoid niacin as it can cause flare-ups. Also, if you take more than 200mg per day of niacin you should also take equivalent dosages of TMG to prevent any methylation issues. Niacin will hinder methylation long term and TMG will offset this. So, if for example you take 500mg of niacin, take 500mg of TMG as well. Just thought I would throw this out there because the last thing you want is to throw your methylation ratios out of whack.

    Lastly, if you are concerned about your methyl donors being depleted you can check your homocysteine levels or better yet get a Dutch test done and this will show a better picture of how well your body is methylating. I’ve seen perfect homocysteine levels in people and then after doing a Dutch test it proved that their methyl donors were depleted. I believe with time that eventually the homocysteine levels would increase, but it is always better to catch things like this before it shows up on blood tests.

    BTW, I’ve been in healthcare for over 27 years trained in integrative functional medicine and I specialize in the prevention and reversal of disease. Excellent video as usual by Dr. Berg. Just wanted to add in a few pointers since his videos are fairly short I am certain that is why he didn’t point this out.

  7. Around 1989 My Cholesterol was 428; recommended a statin but instead took flush-type Niacin,which WAS more readily available then.
    Testing 4 months later Cholesterol down to 215.
    Some Dietary changes too,of course.✌️😎

    • @MamMaw  sorry for the delay. As per your question I am taking 500mg daily with evening meal and the brand I take is Webber Natural, it can be found at Costco or major pharmacy. My previous LDL number was between 310-330 and the most recent blood test showed that it was 209 which is still a little too high because after cardiac event doctors recommend it to be around 180.Keep in mind that Niacin is only part of the solution you must also keep sugar and carbs to a minimum along with saturated fat (dairy,cheese,cream etc..).

  9. Hey Dr. Berg. Im 230 lbs male. I researched niacin a few months ago & decided to take a 500mg dose in the morning with my other supplements that i take after 2 eggs for breakfast. The flushing was terrible. Tingling itching burning sensation in my arms, face, & head that lasted for around an hour. I reduced dose to 100mg. Now i just get tingling in my face & ears for a few minutes. Just an fyi to start the dose low & maybe increase if you want to…….thanks for all you do. Scott.

    • He’s awesome! Always my go to. My Dr wants me to take statins but I’ve held off. My ldl is 448. High, but not extreme. She wants me to take them because I just turned 70 + my ldl level. Seems dumb to me because I’m pretty healthy & I’m young for my age. My BP is a bit high, but not alarming & 10 mg per day of lisinopril is the only med I take. I think Dr Berg is far more knowledgeable than my Dr, so I’m going to start the niacin asap & see what my blood test says in 6 months.

    • @Diane Sullivan Ok. What is important know is your triglycerides number. Many more doctors have been informed about this but not all, not even 20% of doctors yet. I suggest you get this number as soon as possible and send her some videos from Dr Berg’s interviews with researchers and other experts on cholesterol.

  10. Wow thanks Dr. Berg. I just turned 50 and lost both of my parents who had relatively poor health quite early in life. Dad had diabetes in his 40’s, several heart attacks and ultimately died of cancer at 53. Then my mom suffered from Parkinson’s in her 40’s which she succumbed to last year at age 72. I feel overwhelmed and anxious about my health and try to approach my lifestyle differently than my parents so deeply appreciate all of your helpful tips that are affordable! Healing shouldn’t make someone break the bank. Would it be ok yo take niacin if you don’t have known heart issues but for prevention?

    Oxidized LDL seems to be a primary villain for cardiovascular disease.
    Those of us who are genetically predisposed to high levels of small LDL, live in fear of it oxidizing but don’t know how to prevent it from happening.
    This advice could potentially save millions of lives.

  12. RE: My recommendations for the type of Niacin. You won’t have options for buying this vitamin (synthetic or natural). The only thing to keep in mind with buying niacin, to get the benefits I described is that you want the one that creates the flushing response. The non-flush doesn’t give you the heart benefits, however, does give different benefits.
